Merwulf (pronounced 'mAIR-wolf') is a minimalist post-punk/indie trio from Portland, OR, known for their sharp, angular sound that resonates with fans of Gustaf, Sweeping Promises, and early Talking Heads.

The band came to life in late 2022, when songwriter Merri Garcia traded her piano and synth roots for the raw energy of a bass guitar. As a mother and educator navigating the chaos of a world in flux—marked by political upheaval, the pandemic, and climate anxiety—Merri channeled those tensions into songs that are as cathartic as they are confrontational.

Merri joined forces with longtime friends and collaborators, Misty and Larry R., to form a trio that’s all about doing more with less. Eschewing electric guitars, Merwulf's lineup of bass, keys, and drums creates a stripped-down, yet expansive sound that fans have called “like Halloween in summertime”—a playful, moody mix of tension and release.

Their debut single, 'All Zen', landed in August 2023 alongside the searing tracks SAD Snake and Hurt Deep. A year later, Merwulf released their first full-length album, 'On a Night Walk', independently on digital and cassette. Now, with a vinyl release on the way through Moodkiller Records, the trio is proving that there’s power in keeping things simple, intentional, and deeply personal.
